HOT & GREEN: A PLASMA PROBLEM

Bigger is not always better.

Governor Schwarzenegger would seem to be the last person to take these words to heart. And yet, there he was denouncing large energy-guzzling Plasma TVs. Who knew those things consume 10 percent of the average household electricity expense? The Governor supports a proposal from the California energy commission that would insist TV manufacturers increase their energy efficiency in the next two to three years. This would amount to huge savings to consumers and a large weight off California's electrical burden. Now, Gov, about those Hummers...

We miss our HIH Greenies, Leslie and Baylen, who met up with us when we traveled to the East Coast back in July. But now they're back at HIH, and this time they'd like to share some Green News straight out of Washington D.C....

White House chef, Sam Kass, discusses the process of starting the garden and touches upon the history of White House vegetable gardening dating back to Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden during WWII. THE TEASE CONTINUES

UNIVERSAL CELEBRATES EARTH DAY

Universal Studios is celebrating Earth Day with a free Eco-Fair on Sunday, April 19th from 10am to 4pm.

You can try out an electric bicycle, learn how an SUV with no engine can reach amazing speeds, and even cozy up to Kyle Massey and Christopher Massey who will be signing autographs for the event. 

Parking will be free to any vehicle displaying the California Clean Air sticker. You still have to buy a ticket if you get a jones to actually visit the theme park afterwards. But hey, you're parked, so what the hell, right?

The Eco-Fair is a continuation of the "Green is Universal" campaign to raise awareness and encourage consumers to be more environmentally conscious.

STOPPING THE MADNESS

Hallelujah and pass the cornbread!

The EPA has put a hold on all mountain top mining permits. We hope this will stop the single most environmentally destructive practice on the planet.

Last year, the Bush administration tried to change the wording of the Clean Water act to allow mining companies to push tons of polluted mining waste into hundreds of miles of stream water. So we did the only thing a greenie beanie could do. We blogged about it here. AND OUR PRAYERS WERE HEARD.

Now if we could just to something about this darned economy. The Great Green will think On't.

JOIN THE SLOW FOOD MOVEMENT

HIH's Leslie and Baylen Thomas check in to tell us about the new trend that's being adopted by restaurants all over town...

We loved her on Charlie Rose and now Alice Waters, founder of Berkeley's well-known Chez Panisse restaurant and proponent of the Slow Food Movement, can be seen in an interview with 60 Minute's Lesley Stahl.

“I feel that good food should be a right and not a privilege and it needs to be without pesticides and herbicides, and everybody deserves this food.” claims Waters. "People have become aware that the way that we've been eating is making us sick."
