Her music has been featured on Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill. She's performed in venues all across Hollywood. And her lyrics will touch you (down there...just kidding).
You may remember Fay Wolf as one of our Get To Know artists from last year, and now we want to fill you in on her upcoming full-length album, Spiders, arriving this fall.
We're sure it'll be chock-full of Adele-ish tunes perfect for getting over that messy break-up, curling up under a blanket on a rainy day, or putting you in the mood to get some -- whether that "some" is ass, inspiration, or overall love.
And if you're interested in spreading the good word, contributing to Fay's Kickstarter page, and spotting a few famous faces, check out this:
Holy crap! I just found out something shocking: There's been no official Bisexual contingent in the L.A. LGBT Pride March for at least the last 20 years. Uhhh....WHAT?!?! Well, a group called AMBI Los Angeles is gearing up to put the "B" back in LGBT on June 8. And I, for one, am in full support of AMBI's efforts. Bisexuality has long been swept under the rug and misunderstood. This minority of a minority is so invisible that bi kids growing up might dare to think their sexual orientation...doesn't exist. Gasp. Horror. Not okay. So if you're interested in marching alongside this year's landmark group as an ally, or if you yourself identify as bi, fluid, queer, whatever you're calling yourself today, check out www.ambilosangeles.com for more info. There's also gonna be an AMBI mixer at Fiesta Cantina at 3pm after the march on June 8. You never know who you'll meet. Yup, it's pretty exciting to be part of a revolution.
Just hitting the stands (and Barnes and Nobles) this week... Los Angeles Confidential with John Cusack and Hillary Duff on the cover features our very own Michael Medico. Check out the plug (written by another family member Fay Wolf) for Hot in Hollywood the benefit and the blog below.
1. TIN FOIL.
Wipe down that foil and stick it right in the blue bin. It's true!
2. TOILET PAPER ROLLS.
Are you actually bringing them to the recycling bin or just throwing them in the bathroom trash?
3. WIRE HANGERS.
Yes, all those hangers from the dry cleaner can go in your blue bins! (Better yet, return them to the cleaners. Also remember, they happen to be the worst type of hanger for storing clothes.)
4. PLASTIC DRY CLEANING BAGS.
Same thing as above...Contrary to popular belief, you should not keep your clothes stored in them once they're home. They create excess moisture which is bad for your clothes.
5. CREAM CHEESE TUBS (and the like).
Yes, you are supposed to take the extra 15 seconds to wipe and rinse it out and then recycle it.
6. TV DINNER PACKAGING.
Check the bottom of those cooking trays for the recycle symbol. And then, yes, give it a rinse, and change the world.
Nope, regular ol' AA batteries (and bigger) do NOT belong in the trash. Whole Foods, Staples & Goodwill (among other stores) accept them.
8. AEROSOL CANS.
Huh? ...Yup. Chuck those empty and cap-less suckers right in the bin.
9. STUFF IN YOUR CAR.
Surely throughout the day, waste builds up in your vehicle. Everything from paper to (ahem) plastic water bottles to gum wrappers. Make it easier by having two small containers in the car at all times...One for honest-to-goodness trash and one for recyclables to bring inside when you get home.
10. STUFF YOU'RE UNSURE ABOUT.
In the fine City of Los Angeles, recyclables are hand-sorted at the facility. This means that if you're truly unsure about the status of an item, it's better to take the risk and blue bin it instead of putting it in the trash. You won't ruin the chances of everything else being properly recycled.
Writers' strike or not, the Los Angeles Organizing Awards goes on! I know, you can breathe now. But seriously, this promises to be an exciting gala event with its very own red carpet! And it's a perfect capper to National Get Organized Month (January)...did YOU make a resolution to get organized this year? Well come see how the pros do it! The event takes place next Friday night, February 1, at the Luxe Hotel in Bel Air, CA. And - even better - Sherri Shepherd, of ABC's "The View" (and, my personal fave, NBC's "30 Rock") is hosting the event, presented by the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-LA) and The Container Store. Shepherd has used the services of a professional organizer and will speak about her experience and I'm sure she'll bring the house down. The Awards honor the very best in the organizing industry, and will feature celebrity presenters you may have actually heard of: Peter Walsh (Clean Sweep, Oprah), Julie Morgenstern (Organizing From the Inside Out), Linda Koopersmith (Clean House) and many more. The public is invited to join in the fun, and learn firsthand about the most effective organizing strategies, products and services available. Individual tickets to the Awards can be purchased online at www.napola.org. Now, get organized!
Many of us here in Hollywood don't quite know what to do with ourselves lately. The WGA Strike means that most of us don't know where our next paychecks are coming from.
And while that's a harsh reality, think about the bright side...
The time for all those projects you've been meaning to get around to - organizing-related or not - is NOW. That's right. We're calling it. So no more procrastinating. In fact, we don't care if you're on strike in NY or LA, or have a jam-packed schedule in CT. Do that tax prep. Take that bike ride. Mail in that form. Back up those cell phone contacts. Read that novel. Upload those photos and make that slideshow. Call that dude you met at that thing who said he might be able to help you with that other thing. NOW. NOW. NOW.
...Okay, we'll stop yelling.
Auditioning for commercials has always been the subject of groans and frustrations among fellow actors. Classically trained pros wonder why their proven techniques are getting them callbacks for CSI but not for Applebee's. Well, the day you realize that the technique for booking a commercial is not even close to the one used for theatrical auditions is a very important day. And the day you realize that a supercool guy named Killian McHugh is teaching his proven commercial auditioning technique at 1020 Studios – for only $275! – is even better. After 4 weeks of blessing you with his awesome knowledge, your tape will be shown to a number of top casting directors, including Alyson Horn and Jessica J. (He blessed me last year, and I've had tons more callbacks - and a booking. Boo yah!) Killian is an actor himself with a long list of credits and spent years in casting as well. I really could go on and on, but I'll let Killian's website take over: www.killiansworkshop.com. Next class starts this Tuesday, but don't worry if you miss it - there is one EVERY MONTH!!
He also has a separate really unique class that concentrates solely on the callback process and the last class is in front of actual casting directors!!! PLUS: Killian is offering a 10% discount to Hot in Hollywood readers.
Many of us L.A. dwellers work in the entertainment industry, which means lots of receipts for tax write-offs. This week is the time to gather up all those pesky receipts and - at the very least – put them all in one large envelope labeled “2007 Receipts”. Whether your system throughout the year is stuffing them into one box, or neatly filing them by category, or just scattering them around your house and car (no judgment)... take 5-10 minutes to gather them all up, label them, and start a new inbox to collect 2008 receipts. Even if you can’t bear to deal with them now, it will save you time by not having to sort them later by year. (And - eek! – if you aren’t saving them at all and taking the tax deductions you deserve, LET'S TALK.) And if you find that this is all just too much to think about, NEW ORDER will sort it all out for you. Mention “Hot in Hollywood” for 10% off your first session!
You might think since I have my own AIDS benefit (Hot in Hollywood) that I would not want to promote other ones- but what the hell! It's a f***ing aweful disease and the more people that do their part to educate and help those in need... well, that's what I'm about. With that being said, my good friend Fay Wolf (and amazing organizer: New Order) is doing the Posada walk in Pasadena on December 1st to benefit AIDS Service Center (the second-largest AIDS service provider in Los Angeles County). If you can't get out there and walk with her- then consider clicking HERE and donating a little something. Every bit counts. I look foward to the day when we don't have to have AIDS benefits anymore. Until then, you can count on me to promote those out there making a difference.
