During last year's hugely successful Outfest here in Los Angeles, one film had moviegoers buzzing: Pornography. Maybe it was just the title. However, writer-director David Kittredge's atmospheric thriller proved to be more than just a sexy flick with an attention-grabbing name on the marquee. Told in three distinct chapters with just the right amount of Lynchian creepiness, Pornography follows three men through a nightmarish maze of mystery and the macabre.

"I've always been drawn to movies that don’t offer easy answers and challenge the audience to put the pieces together," says Kittredge. "Pornography is structured similarly, so you start out in the center of a mystery, but as the film goes on and the layers of 'reality' are revealed, by the end of the film, even the nature of the central mystery is in question.
Pornography challenges the perception of what pornography means. Sexually explicit material has been around since the dawn of man, and with the advent of cinema it’s become pervasive. It’s not a bad thing in and of itself, but it is a fantasy. And like all venues for escapism, there can be a dark side. Lives are negatively affected by an obsession with illusion, whatever that escape may be...At the end of the day,
Pornography isn’t really about adult entertainment per se, it’s about how even the most seductive fantasy must only be regarded as a temporary escape to one’s reality..."
Pornography is currently screening in limited release. Check your local listings for showtimes.
'twas a great film! Glad I was able to see it at Outfest.
