Remember the days when coffeehouses were independently owned and operated and always much, much better? Hopefully as our Obamanation grows in strength, we will see a rise of the indy shops again. If for no other reason than to see one aspect of our culture de-Walmartized.
Speaking of indies, we MUST tell you of our new favorite place for lunch: SIMPLY COFFEE in Burbank, on Lima Street, just below Magnolia Blvd (East of Hollywood Way). A gorgeous, young Frenchman named Gregory owns and operates this place, (he took it over from someone else a while ago) and the name is misleading now. It is not simply coffee. Although his coffee drinks are delicious. The real reason to go is for his homemade quiches and chocolate mousse! Every day the quiche menu changes (Lorraine is always available, along with two others). For $6.50 you get a generous slice of warm, homemade quiche, a delicious garden salad with tangy balsamic vinaigrette, and service with a smile. Add a bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola and a Chocolate Mousse and you have absolute heaven for around $10.
Support Gregory and his business. He is living the American Dream. And he's working his (cute) ass off doing it. Visit the Simply Coffee yelp page HERE.
